Winter in Vienna

Just the other day, when I left my house early in the morning it struck me: I could smell winter setting in.

These days nature plays funny games with the colour of the leafs and the blowing wind comes into town and makes all people start wearing scarves and bonnets again. The cloth industry makes a hell lot of money with selling these items, because everybody seems to think that their winter accessories from last year are not the latest fashion any more. They also have to match in colours with their new winter coat. Apart from all these fashion issues, winter has these particular characteristics, which lets you know that s/he is coming. Personally my hands get dry and I need to drink way more water and use some lotion for them. My nose starts to run occasionally and the handkerchief business seems to rise these months as well. People start discussing about a flu-vaccination and I start considering wearing a pair of tights under my jeans. The bright side of winters preparation is, when you remember where you hid you skid and ice-skates last season and you do actually find them again. In Vienna they put up a long ice rink in front of the beautiful, historical town hall. There are also plenty of other rinks, for example on top of a huge skyscraper. With these beautiful panoramic views it’s pretty hard to concentrate not falling off your own feed and the sky scraper as well! All in all, winter is a lovable season of the year. However, each year I am very glad about summer coming back.
