Public media in Austria/Vienna

The media coverage, talking about newspapers in Vienna/Austria, is pretty okay. However as in a lot of other countries there are a few newspapers, which one rather not read, cause you seem to become more dump afterwards than beforehand.

There is a whole bunch of these around here. There are two newspapers, which you get daily. They are from that kind, where the publisher uses a lot of colours to make it more appeal-able to the reader and to try hiding and covering up the bad content. The articles are written in a very easy language without any fancy words. In general that’s not a bad thing; however there is a difference between “easy language”, which sounds like Kindergarten style and easy language which is still suitable for a good newspaper. The content includes news about the favourite meal of Brittany Spears dog and him turning vegetarian. I don’t know about you, but I would rather not have this included in a serious newspaper, but in a trashy magazine, which people buy purposely to read that trash.

But these two newspapers are not the worst. There is one daily newspaper, which is even for free. It’s publicly distributed in all subway stations and that’s the place where most people pass by during the day. When they go to work, to school to university or elsewhere, people grab this newspaper and actually read it on their way. The content matches these reader’s life style, cause there are short articles, again in very easy language. Studies about racism in our everyday life have proofed a very critical and racist content and I find that very alarming and horrifying. How can a so called open minded and multicultural society be so narrow minded and not detect and mind and fight against this underground indoctrination? There is no acceptable answer to that.

The sadly amusing story behind the scene is that there is no real competition between these papers, cause they are owned by one big happy Austrian family. If you ask me- that should be forbidden!

The owners of this media imperium are Austrian,…but I also considered some sort of relationship with the Bildzeitung in Germany,…if not by blood, at least by their level of intelligence! The names are: “Kronenzeitung” and the one which is acessable for free is called “Heute” Ill try and find out more about a possible connection.

Hey Imke!

I would like to know the names of these newspapers! And do you know if they are connected to the german “Bildzeitung”? Because it sounds exactly like that ;-)
